Mixed Mani Monday: A Valentine's Celebration

Valentine's Day has always held a special place in my heart. Not just for the love it represents, but for the joy and warmth it brings during the chilly month of February. It's a time when we can break away from the everyday hustle and bustle to celebrate love in its many forms. With Valentine's Day only days away, and the possibility of sneaking out for a romantic dinner (fingers crossed for a last-minute babysitter!), I wanted my manicure to be extra special this year.

Diving into my stash of nail wraps, I was on a mission to find the perfect mix that screamed Valentine's without being too on-the-nose. That's when I stumbled upon "Whispering Sweethearts" – an elegant design featuring heart shapes set against a semi-sheer pink background. It was love at first sight! To complement this, I sought out matching colours but with different textures. I found just what I needed in "Party Favour" – a dark pink nail wrap that promised a bold statement, and "Lotus Splash (Overlay)" – a light pink holographic glitter that seemed like it was made for catching the light in the most romantic settings.

Today, I decided to skip the base coat. I know, some might consider it a nail wrap application sin, but I've heard others rave about going base-coat-free, and curiosity got the better of me. It was an experiment, after all. However, I wasn't completely reckless. A chip on my middle nail needed attention, so I used a clear semi-cured gel wrap for the repair – a sneak peek of a new product we're excited to bring to our shop soon!

Applying the wraps in what I believed was the most appealing order, I was initially tempted to forgo the top coat as well. Yet, after applying cuticle oil, I noticed the wrap lost some of its sheen. Deciding I wanted this manicure to last through whatever Valentine's Day had in store, I reached for my trusty Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat. It's a lifesaver, drying quickly without shrinking the wraps and providing that glossy finish I adore. Voilà! The look was complete.

Valentine's Day in our household is celebrated with a touch of simplicity. Even with the possibility of a night out, we never forget to include the kids in the day's celebrations. A small gift and a chocolate heart each ensure they feel the love too.
