Tips and Tricks

Getting the perfect nail wrap manicure is all about knowing the right tricks, and we're here to help you step up your nail game. Whether you're new to nail wraps or you've been using them for a while, our tips will help make sure your manicure remains vibrant and long lasting.

Use a Base Coat

Before you apply your nail wraps, it's a good idea to start with a thin layer of a trustworthy base coat. This not only protects your natural nails but also creates a smoother surface that helps the wraps stick better. Here are some top picks for base coats:

  • Nail-Aid Keratin 3 Day Growth
  • Orly Bonder Rubberized Basecoat
  • Sally Hansen Strengthening Basecoat
  • Sally Hansen Repair + Rescue Basecoat

Use a Top Coat

To make your nail wraps last longer and look their best, consider adding a top coat. This extra step can give your nails more shine and help protect them from chemicals found in sunscreen, lotion, and hand sanitizer. Here are some great top coats to try:

  • CND Vinylux Top Coat
  • Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat
  • Essie Gel Couture Top Coat
  • Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Top Coat

Warm up your Wraps

During the colder months, nail wraps can sometimes feel as stiff as stickers when you try to apply them. To make them easier to handle, simply warm them up a bit. Warm wraps glide on smoothly, almost like butter, because the heat softens the adhesive and makes them more flexible. This helps a lot with both applying them and smoothing out the edges. You can warm them by placing them on a heating pad, holding them near a space heater, or giving them a quick blast with a hair dryer. Just make sure not to overdo it, as too much heat could change their texture.

Nail Wrap Removal Tips

When it's time to remove your nail wraps, following proper techniques is essential to avoid any damage to your natural nails. Nail wraps can be removed in multiple ways, the key is to melt the glue under the wrap. Here are a few methods:

Oil method

To remove nail wraps easily, start by lifting a small corner of each wrap. Then, soak your nails in warm oil for a few minutes. You can use a rubber cuticle pusher or another finger to gently nudge the wrap off, letting the warm oil loosen the adhesive underneath. If the wrap doesn't come off easily, soak your nails again in the warm oil for another minute or two. Coconut oil works great for this, and you can mix it with some warm water.

Nail polish remover method

Start by gently lifting the corner of each nail wrap. Then, dip a rubber cuticle pusher in nail polish remover and use it to slowly nudge the wrap off your nail. Slide the cuticle pusher back and forth under the edge of the wrap where it’s lifting. If the wrap sticks and won’t come off easily, put more nail polish remover on the cuticle pusher to help break down the adhesive. We recommend using Mineral Fusion Nail Polish Remover for best results.

Nail Polish Remover + Nail Polish Clips

This removal method is easy and works great if you have Nail Polish Removal Clips. You can find these clips at most beauty supply stores or online on Amazon for under $10. You’ll also need cotton balls and nail polish remover.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Start with one hand and gently lift a small corner of each nail wrap.
  2. Soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover and place it over the nail wrap.
  3. Secure the cotton ball to your nail using a nail polish removal clip.
  4. Do this for all five nails on one hand and wait about 3-5 minutes.
  5. After waiting, gently wipe off the nail wrap.
  6. Repeat the process with your other hand.

Post-Removal Care :

After successfully removing your wraps, any residual adhesive can be wiped away using 70% isopropyl alcohol or an alcohol wipe. Follow up by washing your hands with soapy water and applying moisturizer to keep your nails healthy and hydrated.

To avoid damage to your natural nails - NEVER PEEL WRAPS OFF without using one of the of glue dissolving methods mentioned above.

How to reseal wraps

To ensure your nail wraps stay in top condition, store them in their original packaging in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Unopened, they'll last for about two years. Once you open them, try to use the wraps within  3-6 months to prevent the adhesive from drying out. If you want to extend their life after opening, you can reseal the package using a mini heat sealer or a hair straightener to keep them fresh longer. Click here to learn more.
